His Loud Song of Mercy

His Loud Song of Mercy
by Nancy Doud

We all were lost and turned away
our lips were filled with lies
Our hearts were turned towards other gods
the light had gone out from our eyes.

Though in our midst You ever stood
we yet reviled your gracious law
You, Oh God, are holy, just and good
to rebels who near would feign to draw.

Each new morning brings your justice
each new day you fail to fail,
and yet our sin will know no shame
against your disciplines we rail.

Purify our lips and hearts Oh, Lord,
that we may call upon your name
that we might serve harmoniously
that we might not be put to shame.

From every corner of the earth, Lord,
gather us your scattered sons.
Blot out our wrongs and arrogance,
make us your meek and humble ones.

May we, in You ever rest and do away with fear
for You have given us Your Holy King,
That enemies be trampled out.
Let Daughter Zion shout out and sing!

Oh Church, the LORD is in your Midst
A mighty Warrior who saves His own
Today He’ll not rebuke us still.
To gather exiles, he left His throne.

Oh Church, He quiets troubled hearts.
We are His bride, the prize of our King.
In mercy and love He no longer rebukes,
but now He rejoices and loudly sings!

For every feast that we counted a fast,
and every gift that we felt as a loss
He has made us partakers of heavenly food.
For all our reproaches, He bore on the cross.

He is gathering exiles from every land,
He has stricken oppressors and rescued the lame,
He has gathered us all and brought us all home
Giving honor and praises in the place of our shame.

Oh Daughter of Zion, living Church of our God,
with Christ you have died, and with Him you arise.
The LORD has declared renewal and hope,
In Christ He has done it, before your own eyes!

  1. Do you ever put your work to music? I really love this part: May we, in You ever rest and do away with fear
for You have given us Your Holy King,
    That enemies be trampled out.
Let Daughter Zion shout out and sing!
