He’s Mine

Inspired by Josh Garrels’, “Heaven’s Knife.”

I’ll take your hand and won’t let go.
You were without help, so alone.
I’ve looked for you, the one my heart loves,
my life long, as words to a song that we know
and knew we’d sing forever.
Like the first girl in the garden
cleft from your side,
I awoke beneath your arm
As you slept in peace.
Oh my life, he’s wonderful,
he’s my covering and he’s mine.
And you beheld me as I helped you
come more and more alive,
intertwining our hearts like vines
wrapped around a tree of life in
curving, intersecting lines.
Like the first girl in the garden,
made of the same breath and dust,
I awake by you in the stillness
and submit in love as
knowing love gives rise to trust,
as you sleep there, your body
cleft for mine.
Oh my life, he’s wonderful,
waiting there for me.
Oh, he’s masterfully
made by God for me.
Oh, he’s everything, everything I
could need.
Yes, he’s wonderfully made for me.
He’s my covering and he’s mine.
